A client who owed me a bunch of money is paying, largely due to my bookkeeper’so persistence with a smile on collections.

I had already budgeted this as a write off. I have options:

1. Be responsible. Save for a rainy day.

2. Be responsible. Deposit in 401 (k)

3. Be stupid and buy an old car or a cool motorcycle to scratch my two wheels itch.

I am torn between being a responsible adult and saying fuck it all in the name of fun.

Keep it as petty cash for you business, but if you don’t need it 100% 401k.

Haven’t you been a responsible adult enough? I mean come on, you’ve got yourself a nice abode, good reliable job, I’m assuming you’ve probably got a decent amount saved up. Treat yourself. Can’t ever enjoy the money if you’re always saving. You DESERVE it.

Life is meant for living, save half and spend the rest.

Even though it’s OPPO and we’re supposed to make bad decisions, I’d say save it.

Depends on what your version of a lot of money is. My uncle lawyer bought a pontoon boat and a Mercedes type wheelchair sprinter van to tow it with when he settled a big case, then a couple years later sold them both as he didn’t go out as much as he thought he would and boats are holes in the water you throw money in.

If you are splitting up in the three of the lists ahead you are smart. Take care of your later self.

What was that older Nissan - Toyota or something for $2500 you posted a while back? Something like that or GT2000 money?

Is go for the GT2000 if you can wing it.

Two wheels, maybe a dual sport.

Whenever I end up with an unexpected check, I always do something fun or consumable and save the rest. Go out to Ruth’s Chris for the night or buy yourself a bottle of Don Julio 1942. Save the rest. If you still have the itch to buy a toy in a few months and the cash is still flowing well, spend it then. Otherwise you’ll probably have your pool spring a leak and need $3000 of repairs right after you spent it on a motorcycle.

Save half/Spend half. Life is short. I’ve seen too many people save everything for retirement, only to not make it or not have the health to enjoy it.

I remember when I went to Maui several years ago. I saw so many seniors who would come to the black sand beach (or other tourist spots), take a photo, then get back in their car and leave. I couldn’t help but think how much more fun they might of had if they had come 30-40 years earlier. They could of went snorkeling, tried surfing, maybe even had a romantic night on a secluded area of the beach.

First give your bookkeeper a bonus. From the rest, save half and go crazy pants with the other half. Maybe paint the Sunchaser? You just got a Vespa, so you don’t need another two-wheeled thing yet.

Buy computer parts. I’ve heard the X99 chipset and NVidia’s Pascal-era TITAN (a card for the less intelligent overclockers) can fetch a pretty penny.

If memory serves me right, one oppo commentariat is perusing the idea of getting the chipset after his Corsair radiator killed his computer.

EDIT: Buy parts separately. Do not go for the prebuilt ones.

Depends on how much you’ll enjoy #3. You’ve already got 2 cool alternative transport methods, so a third will just limit the time you can spend with each of them.

Depending on how much of a bond you have with the Sunchaser, you could sell it and buy your affordable dream car?
